Herma's main object of production is labels.
In the entrance area of the main office in Stuttgart-Wangen, 12 labels have
been installed that specify what the company does.
A label names all kinds of products, informs as to their contents, properties
and value... ![]()
12 glass panels, which are hung from artificial window recesses, bear 248 sand-blasted
words. Verbs. The company employees have collected these words to define their
work.
These glass panels or labels are not just supports for appellations. The glass
has the additional property of turning either opaque or transparent by means
of electric current.
For one, the glass panels operate as cases, for another they allow you short
intervals of insight into what is behind them, i.e., the contents: the viewer
is given a glance into what is happening at the workplace. The different worlds
of work are recognizable as details on illuminated photos: illustrations of
machine parts, a tool table, a balance sheet allow us an understanding of the
complex structures of this company.
At timed intervals it is made possible for the onlooker to receive or be denied
visual access to ever new aspects. The 12 objects are activated and with them
the viewer.
