The Württembergischer Fire Insurance Co. insures against fire, water, storms
and earthquakes.
It added a further storey to one office building in the center of Stuttgart.
On this floor, fitted out in precious and highly polished materials, 12 columns
in 12 wall niches have been installed...

The columns are comprised of ruined material: corroded copper, molten steel,
molten aluminum and burnt wood.
They stage a poetry of destruction in a sound and intact environment. The objects
point out the superhuman power of the elements. The thought itself is not sufficient.
Not till you see the bent, molten, torn, exploded forms does it become comprehensible.
The surprise, with which an unforeseen event breaks in on the continual flow
of time and the day's course, becomes visible. These objects attained their
look not in periods of time, for instance, in which a drop hollows a stone,
but in short moments of extreme unexpectedness. The objects are witnesses of
the surprise inherent in time.
