Siedlingswerk Ltd. is a non-profit company that is chiefly active in housing.
The artworks in this edifice present pieces of construction produced during
the building process and preserved incomplete. You see a substructure column
in the lobby, concrete images in the stairwell and highlighted signs and shadows
in breaks in the wall on the 4th floor.
Construction is, like every kind of work, an ongoing process. Something about
to turn into something else.
Not yet finished, unfinished... ![]()
Something finished is smooth, leaves no question unanswered. The unfinished
develops its own poetry from the rough, the still raw, the indeterminate,
and from the questions left open.
It is disquieting. Whereas completeness has a soothing effect.
The roughness of the parts from the building site correlates with the smoothness
of the architectural skin. These parts are then both alienated and rendered
sublime through the contrasting sharp, smooth, illuminated plexiglass strips
of light.
